Reading is fun when it is a shared experience with a parent or other person. This can be done by reading the story together and taking turns reading aloud. Or, the parent and child can read the story separately, and then compare answers to the questions below. Remember, reading together should be fun.
How did the story make you feel?
What did you like or dislike about the story?
Does this story remind you of another story?
What were you wondering about as you were reading?
Do the events in the story remind you of any in your own life?
Were there any parts of the story that surprised you?
Are you like any of the characters? Which character would you like to be friends with?
Would you like to read more stories with the same characters?
Do you still have any questions about the story, or the topic that you learned about?
You may find that you and your child enjoy the same types of books, the same characters, or the same topics. This enjoyment may lead you both to search out more literature about these stories or topics on your own!
